The Senate Appropriations Committee released spending legislation for fiscal 2022 that would finally allow Washington, DC to legalize marijuana sales, in violation of President Joe Biden’s budget request. The House has already approved the removal of the ban, and Democratic leaders plan to enact a final package of credits by December 3.
- The new Senate bills would also protect state medical cannabis laws from federal interference, call for reconsideration of policies that fire federal workers for marijuana, and criticize barriers to Schedule I research.
New York Department of Labor issued guidelines saying employers cannot test the drug on most workers for marijuana, going so far as to say that the smell of cannabis cannot be used to prove impairment at work.
- âObservable signs of use that do not indicate impairment in themselves cannot be cited as an articulable symptom of impairment. Only symptoms which provide objectively observable indications that the performance by the employee of the essential functions or tasks of his position is diminished or diminished may be cited.
The South Dakota Legislature Adult Marijuana Review Subcommittee approved a bill to legalize recreational cannabis. Campaigners don’t necessarily believe lawmakers will follow through and still plan to move forward with a plan to bring another legalization initiative to voters next year.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife will be holding a workshop this week on a new grant program to help small-scale marijuana growers clean up and restore the environment. The funds come from cannabis tax revenues.

Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist, currently a congressman, tweeted, â18 states have already legalized recreational marijuana – it’s time Florida did too.
Virginia Democratic candidate for Lt. Gov. Hala Ayala, currently a delegate, stressed that legalizing marijuana was a key achievement.
Washington, DC The Attorney General tweeted, âAfter 6 years of advocacy, I am happy to see Congress respecting the will of the voters of DC. Hopefully DC will soon be able to regulate our local marijuana market, direct new tax revenues to communities most affected by over-criminalization, and take action to clear related criminal records. The President of the council tweeted: âThis is a step in the right direction. We hope that as the bill goes through the Senate no slogans will be inserted so that we can honor the will of the constituents in the district and build a safe and fair recreational cannabis market. “
California The attorney general and other officials will attend a conference commemorating the 25th anniversary of the state’s medical cannabis law on November 5.
Wisconsin The Speaker of the Assembly said he supported medical cannabis but did not support the legalization of recreational marijuana “yet”. (Around 6:00 p.m. in the audio.)
