Dublin, Aug. 03, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The report “Global Coach and Bus Growth Outlook, 2022” has been added to from offer.

The COVID-19 pandemic continued to have a global impact in 2021, with transit and bus operators facing financial strains as daily trips dwindled and people turned to personalized transportation to avoid infection.

However, with ongoing vaccination campaigns, ridership is expected to increase in 2022. India and Latin America are candidates for strong growth in 2022, although volumes may be below 2019 levels. developing countries, the majority of the population working in the informal sector is highly dependent on public transport for their daily journeys. They will drive the growth of the city bus segment.

The size of the global bus market in 2021 was around 167,218 units. It is estimated to decline to around 165,819 units in 2022, declining at a negative year-over-year rate of 0.8%.

This decline will be mainly driven by China, where there is a shift in passenger preference from buses to high-speed rail, aviation and private passenger vehicles, as well as an increase in shared mobility, including including two-wheelers and car sharing.

Zero-emission powertrains in transit buses have gained momentum in Europe, North America, India and Latin America. The European Clean Vehicle Directive for EU countries will boost the adoption of electric buses. In Latin America, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador and Panama are developing an electromobility strategy to promote zero-emission buses in public transport.

In addition, the ZEBRA project will promote the adoption of the electric powertrain in various municipalities. In India, FAME II is promoting the adoption of alternative powertrains on intra-urban and inter-urban routes across the country and various State Transport Units (STUs). In North America, the Low or No Emission Program, Clean Transit and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) will increase funding for zero-emission buses.

New business models in the electric bus market aim to reduce the initial cost gap between electric buses and internal combustion engine (ICE) buses. Separating the ownership and operation of electric buses, battery rental and maintenance will drive the adoption of electric buses.

Geopolitical crises and high inflation will encourage most central banks to raise interest rates, derailing the recovery. In the first half of 2022, a sharp rise in fuel prices, weaker foreign trade and supply difficulties linked to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict will hamper growth.

The slowdown in China, impacting foreign trade and financial markets, will also partly weigh on growth. Traditional OEMs in various regions are expanding their product portfolios to include battery and fuel cell electric buses in the mass transit segment. In the bus market, there are strong collaborations between incumbent automakers, suppliers and new entrants striving to enter the market.

Relatively lower total cost of ownership of electric buses compared to diesel buses and the push in the development of charging infrastructure will drive the adoption of electric buses in different regions.
